Hello! I am setting up this blog page to allow us to share information, experiences, and what it is like in a day in the life of a small scale farming operation. As I am sure that you can see from the rest of our website we have poultry, diary goats, horses, and a few beef cattle. While we are not on a large scale farming operation one might think that small = easier. WRONG! Small usually means more work, harder work, and profits are even more difficult to find. You do not have large yields so you cannot justify the expense of large, and costly, equipment that would lessen the work load in many ways. That being said, we do feel that we turn out high quality products that are healthful and worth the extra effort.
Many times I will be writing the blog entry and other times it will be another member of the family sharing their experience. Whoever wrote for the day will sign off at the end so that you know who's take on "A Day in the Life" it was. Feel free to comment on any entry! We have learned that a veterinarian is great but often the most helpful and practical information has come from other herdsmen after all "it takes a village" to do so many things.
Blessings,
Casey
